4 HOUR LIVE BROADCAST - NATIONAL STRIKE COVERAGE

On November the 30th the journalism students at Winchester University covered the public sector strikes in a four hour live broadcast.

My role

I was the output editor on this project. It involved managing a team of 13 news reporters, advising and supporting them. I also had to ensure that all the news packages were legally safe to broadcast. My team produced a total of 17 news packages.

The rest of the team

The broadcast took place in conjunction with Liverpool John Moores University, The University of Buckingham, London Metropolitan University and Leeds Metropolitan University.

Live streaming on the day included pre-recorded packages, "as live" reports from the field uploaded via You Tube, and most excitingly of all, 100 percent live reports of breaking news from OB units using Skype. The whole thing was mixed live on location using a Tricaster with remarkably few technical glitches, there were some problems with sound, and parts of this highlights package were re-recorded exactly copying the output on the day.
